In Partnership with

Contextualizing the Issue

Self-Determination

Indigenous groups in the status quo lack self-determination due to inadequate political representation and autonomy over traditional lands, leading to territorial conflicts and failure to protect basic human rights.

Systemic Racism

Discriminatory laws imbedded in history, such as the 60s scoop, Indian act, and residential school programs impose systemic and structural barriers  upon indigenous peoples today, leading to over-criminalization, substance abuse, high suicide rates, and lower employment rates...

Cultural Assimiliation

The influx of globalization and emigration cause language endangerment, abandonment of culture, and loss of self-identity. Up to 95% of the world's languages will become extinct, with most spoken by indigenous communities. Without efforts of revitalization, centuries worth of culture will vanish.

Intergenerational-trauma

Individuals who suffered from the effects of colonization cause a ripple effect to subsequent generations, passing down the physical, mental, and cultural trauma to their children, fostering a vicious cycle of depression and anger.
